MAPLETON, Iowa -- Alma Magdalena Banta, 86, of Mapleton died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rodney United Church of Christ in Rodney, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m.. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Alma was born on Aug. 4, 1925, on a farm outside of Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Sophie (Todd) Heinse. She attended country school.

Alma and Leonard Banta were united in marriage on Nov. 16, 1960. They made their home in Rodney, where she was a housewife. Leonard passed away on Oct. 24, 1983. Alma continued to live in Rodney until June 2009, when she moved to Maple Heights Nursing Home where she resided until her death.

Alma was a member of the Legion Auxiliary Unit 666 in Smithland, Iowa. She belonged to the Rodney United Church of Christ.

Alma is survived by nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her sister, Edna Kloster; her brother, Bert Heinse; and a loving nephew, Jeff Ingram.
