UTE, Iowa -- Edna S. Jahn, 96, of Ute went to our Lord surrounded by her family Monday, March 19, 2012, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Gordon Buchholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute. Edna Sophie Jahn was born on Feb. 16, 1916, in Monona County, Iowa, the daughter of Friedrich and Anna (Kiepe) Mohr. She was baptized on March 19, 1916, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute and was confirmed on April 13, 1930, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. She completed the eighth grade.

On Feb. 10, 1941, she was united in marriage to Walter Jahn by the Rev. Hugo Neiting at St. Paul's parsonage in Ute. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Ute until they retired to town in 1975. They were married for 64 years when Walter passed away on May 8, 2005.

Edna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Edna's loving spirit and devotion to her family were a powerful witness to her Christ-centered faith. She loved flowers and was well known for her many flower gardens and houseplants. She also enjoyed playing cards and fishing as well as serving as an active member of the Ute Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her two sons, Evan (Janet) Jahn of Richmond, Va., and Dennis (Pam) Jahn of Ute; one daughter, Karen (Robert) Starckovich of Bloomington, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Teresa Hemann, Jennifer Jahn, Rebecca Stone, Vernon Jahn, Valleri Gilbert, Wendy Balomenos, and Sara Rummell; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Strait of Battle Creek, Iowa, Marcella (Louis) Kuehl of Mapleton, Iowa, and Barbara (Warren) Timm Thies of Ute; one brother, Fred (Darlene) Mohr of Ute; and many nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; an infant daughter, Jenny Lou; and one sister, Phyllis Runkle.
