Brown, Mrs. Thayer E. Brown ( Henrikson ) ~ 1985

Mrs. Thayer E. Brown, Sr., Turin, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 19, 1985, in the Pleasant View Nursing Home at Whiting, Iowa. She had been ill the past few months. Death came at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 19 days.

The former Mary Jo Henrikson was born on July 20, 1898, on a farm near Preparation Park in rural Moorhead, Iowa. Her parents were Rasmus Henrikson and Johanna Marie Hanson Henrikson. She was married to Thayer E. Brown at the family farm near Moorhead on September 6, 1916, and they made their home on a farm near Turin. Since 1960 they had resided during the winter months at Ft. Pierce, Fla. The couple had recently celebrated their 69 years of marriage.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the LSE Club, both of Turin and Queen Esther Chapter No. 222 Order of Eastern Star at Onawa. She was a wonderful wife and mother and was always ready to help anyone when needed. She loved her flowers and enjoyed sharing them with others.

Survivors include her husband, Thayer E. Brown, Sr., of Turin; two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Christy) Moore of Evansville, Ind., and Mrs. Frank E. (Betty) Robinson of Oswego, N.Y.; a son, Thayer E. Brown, II, of Turin, a sister, Mrs. Rose Hundahl of Dallas, Texas, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 1985, at the United Methodist Church at Turin with rev. Hugh Bird officiating. Mrs. Syril Brown, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Larry Warren, the soloist, in the selections, “Blest Be the Tie” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer”.

Active bearers were Kyle Robinson, Dee McCormack, Richard Moore, Ross Brown, T. Eric Brown and Earl Moore.

Honorary bearers were Syril Brown, Vernon Brown, Ray Severson, Elwood Seybold, Bill Knudsen and Harvey Hansen.

Interment was in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
