N. P. Anderson Dies 1944

Jordan Township lost one of her most highly respected citizens last week with the death of Nels Anderson on Friday, Sept. 22. Mr. Anderson’s death came quite unexpectedly for he had always enjoyed fairly good health until he suffered a stroke a few days before his death. He died in a Sioux City hospital after everything possible had been done to save his life.

Mr. Anderson was one of those unselfish, kind neighbors whom everyone respected highly. He was a real Christian and brought his family up this way.

A large crowd attended his funeral services at the Soldier Valley Lutheran Church Monday afternoon at which Rev. Hoff preached the sermon. Burial was in the Jordan cemetery under the direction of Ralph Oldham.

Nels Peter Anderson, son of Jens Jorgen and Inga Christina Anderson, was born December 3, 1868 at Grinsted, Denmark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In 1892 he came to America. After spending some years in California he returned to Iowa where he bought a farm in Jordan township in the year 1900 where he made his home until his death. On April 20, 1906 he was united in marriage to Lena Ollgaard and to this union four children were born.

Mr. Anderson always enjoyed good health and was actively engaged in farming until five years ago at which time the farm was taken over by his son, Harry.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lena, two sons, Axel of Charles City and Harry of Soldier, and one daughter, Olga of Soldier, one grandchild, Carol, of Charles City, besides a host of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Anderson had no other relatives in this country but had several in his native country of Denmark whom have not been heard from since the beginning of the war. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran Church and in the early days services were often held in his home.

He died Friday, September 22 at 1:40 a.m. at the St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City.

Memorial wreaths were given in his memory to Charities, Missions, and Christian Education, by neighbors and friends.
