DANBURY, Iowa -- Anna L. Oberreuter, 95, of Danbury died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Willow Dale Wellness Village at Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating with the assistance of Deacon Ray Rosburg. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, with a 3:30 p.m. rosary by St. Mary's Rosary Society and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton.

Anna Loretta (Dirksen) Oberreuter was born Nov. 21, 1914, near Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Theobald) Dirksen. Anna was from a family of 12. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Mapleton in 1929.

On Feb. 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to Joseph Adam Oberreuter in the chapel of St. Mary's School in Mapleton. The couple began farming five and one-half miles north of Danbury, where they raised their eight children. They retired into Danbury in 1977. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1986 and their 60th in 1996. Joe died Jan. 22, 1998, Anna resided at Willow Dale Wellness Village since 2000. She then lived in assisted living and just recently returned to the nursing home this past May.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, as well as St. Mary's Rosary Society. She enjoyed card playing, dancing, reading and gardening. Her greatest joy was her family. When needed, she served as cook at the Danbury Catholic School Hot Lunch Program.

Survivors include her children, Irvin (Eileen) Oberreuter and Kay (Clem) Wessling, all of Danbury, Joann Allmon of Crescent, Iowa, Leon (Joanne) Oberreuter of Ridgefield, Wash., Nancy Bejune of Northridge, Calif., Connie Barrett of Sioux City, and Janet (Mike) Kellum of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Betty Oberreuter of Holstein, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Arney of Onawa, Iowa, and Louise Sander of Mapleton, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Rita Dirksen of Danbury.

Along with her husband, Anna was preceded in death by a son, Bill; three sons-in-law, Bob Barrett, John Allmon and Richard Bejune; a great-grandson, Nicholas Plantz; and a great-granddaughter, Tiara Oberreuter.
