23 December 2010Ronald Marvin Engelke died December 9, 2010, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the age of 64. He was the son of Marvin and Ida Louise (Meyer) Engelke, was born on June 17, 1946, near Mapleton.
Ronald attended school in Smithland until the 8th grade. He graduated with the class of ’64 at Mapleton High School. He lived on the family farm his whole life and farmed with his father until the death of his father. Ron enjoyed working with his cattle. He started working at Dunlap Sale Barn in March of 2003. He loved chuck-wagon racing. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his best buddy, Dennis and truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Ron married Roxanne Meier in Mapleton on November 10, 1989. With this union they had two children, Becky and Brice. Roxanne passed away on March 12, 2007. He married Nona Chandler on May 1, 2010 and to this marriage he had three children, Heath, Heather and Haylee.
Surviving Ron are his wife, Nona of Lake View; his children Becky and her husband Mike Denton of Mapleton and Brice and his fiancée Tova of Mapleton; his step-children Heath Woodward of Lake View, Heather Groth of Ida Grove and Haylee Neddermeyer of Battle Creek; 4 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Roxanne.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab and Rev. Don Peterson of Lake View officiating. Music in message was by Karen Krusen, organist, with congregational singing that included “Amazing Grace,” “Old Rugged Cross,” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Pallbearers were Frank Weber, Dale Engelke, Bailey Melby, Bowdie Melby, Blane Melby, and Josh Meier.
Visitation was Sunday, December 12, after 4 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton.
Armstrong Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
