MAPLETON, Iowa -- Hildegarde Ullrich, 98, of Mapleton died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with Monsignor Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a rosary by St. Mary's Guild at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements.

Hildegarde Ullrich was born March 26, 1912, at Mapleton, the daughter of Michael and Susan (Zeimen) Thomas.

She was married Jan. 27, 1931, to Leo J. Ullrich in Mapleton. The couple farmed in the Mapleton area until moving into Mapleton in 1980. Leo passed away June 28, 1997.

Hildegarde was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, as well as St. Mary's Guild. She enjoyed time spent playing cards, especially bridge. She also found pleasure with her talent in crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Most of all, however, she loved her family!

Survivors include three sons, John Ullrich and his wife, Jean of Omaha, Bill Ullrich of Omaha, and Ray Ullrich and his wife, Sherri of Dakota City; five daughters, Rita Meister and her husband, Paul of Dallas, Texas, Eileen Schaaf and her husband, Dean of Omaha, Hildegarde Lauters and her husband, Doug of Marcus, Iowa, Nancy Cannella and her husband, Bob of Omaha, and Jeanette Ullrich of Denison, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Hildegarde was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Larry and Leo; a daughter, Mary in infancy; a grandson, Dennis Lauters; a grandson-in-law, Mark Glackin; two brothers; and one sister.
