Smithland, Iowa—Warren W. Parsley, 78, of Smithland died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Willman Funeral Chapel in Rodney, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Parsley was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Sergeant Bluff, the son of Ralph and Lydia (Nielsen) Parsley. He was raised by his grandfather, Lawrence Nielsen and Eddie and Thelma Miller. He graduated from Castana (Iowa) High School in 1938.
He married Alice Lant on August 11, 1940 in Emerson, Nebr. He had lived in the Smithland and Castana area. He served in the US Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was employed as a bulldozer operator with Peters Construction in Onawa, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of American Legion Leslie F. Seaton Post 666 of Smithland and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9124 of Oto, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, five sons and their wives, Leon and Luann of Fremont, Nebr., Lance and Judy of Sioux City, Galvin and Cheryl of Lawton, Iowa, Michael and Janet of Hornick, Iowa and Marvin and Toni of Plattsmouth, Nebr.; two daughters, Connie and her husband, Mike Davis of Rodney and Cheryl Beckstrom of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; stepmother, Ethel Beebee; a grandson; and two great-granddaughters.
