"David A. Wolfe, Pioneer Merchant is Dead" WELL KNOWN TURIN MERCHANT DIED MONDAY AFTER 70 YEARS IN THE MERCANTILE BUSINESS IN MONONA COUNTY...HAD SPENT THE GREATER PART OF HIS LIFE IN TURIN--FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD WEDNESDAY AT TURIN METHODIST CHURCH
David A. Wolfe, a resident of Turin the past 70 years passed away Monday morning after a period of failing health in recent months. Mr. Wolfe was born May 25, 1858, near Glenwood, Iowa, and came to the Turin community at the age of 15 years.
Almost all of that time had been spent operating the general merchandise store in Turin which carried his name for so many years. He recently held a sale in which his store building and contents were sold.
He was united in marriage with Ella Bridgeman on December 16, 1892. Mrs. Wolfe died October 9, 1938. In recent months Mr. and Mrs. Luke Killion had lived at his home and cared for him.
His survivors include a brother-in-law, Homer Bridgeman and two nieces. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Gladys and Cecil. He was a member of Vesper Lodge No. 223 A. F. & A. M. of Onawa.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 24th at 2 p.m. at the Turin Methodist church. Rev. Warren Bintz officiated. Vesper lodge members conducted services at the Onawa Cemetery, where interment was made.
Bearers were Emil Petersen, Clarence Burke, Ernest Ravnsborg, John Wagner, Asa Johnston and Harold Ravnsborg. Arrangements made by the Pearson Funeral home. Mrs. Margaret Gray sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Going Down the Valley". She was accompanied at the Organ by Mrs. Dorothy Ferris.
