Hold Funeral Services for John Gust

John Alfred Gust, son of Herman and Dorthea (Freerking) Gust, was born December 23, 1907 in Monona County, Iowa, in the Mapleton-Ute vicinity and died Monday, September 23, 1974 at his home. He had reached the age of 66 years and 9 months.

Mr. Gust married Hilda Johns on November 30, 1932 at Mapleton, Iowa. He and his wife had retired from farming in 1959. He was baptized at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute in 1908 and was confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Paul’s in 1922. He was a longtime faithful member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at Mapleton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ronald.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda of Mapleton; one son, Robert of Mapleton and two grandsons, and one brother, Herman of Mapleton.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 26, 1974 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at Mapleton, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Robert Leege officiated and burial was in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Earl Schelm, Edwin Clausen, LaVerne Freerking, Floyd Marsh, Lee Freerking and Norman Peterson.
