HORNICK, Iowa -- LeRoy Claude Miller, 85, of Hornick died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hornick United Methodist Church, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

LeRoy was born Jan. 4, 1923, at Ticonic, Iowa, the son of Claude and Stella (Jenkins) Miller. He attended grade school in Ticonic, and Castana High School, where he graduated in 1941.

He and LaVonne Scott were united in marriage on April 20, 1942, at Dakota City. They farmed in the communities of Whiting, Hornick, Climbing Hill and Holly Springs, Iowa. LeRoy retired from farming at the age of 83. He was happiest when driving his tractors. LaVonne passed away on Aug. 10, 2001. LeRoy entered Pleasant View Assisted Living in March 2006.

He was a member of Hornick United Methodist Church. Farming was always his number one interest, and he and LaVonne enjoyed spending their winters in Donna, Texas, over 25 years. He also enjoyed seeing his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Randy Petersen of Lawton, Iowa, and Diana and Rodd Nordstrom of Sloan, Iowa; five grandchildren, Cory Nordstrom and his wife, Theresa, Ryan Klingensmith, Amy Herbst and her husband, Nate, Eric Petersen and Adam Petersen; three great-grandchildren, Carter and Leah Nordstrom and Regan Herbst; a brother, Keith (Alice) Miller of Mapleton, Iowa; two sisters, Freda Lundeen of Onawa, Iowa, and Carol Hewett of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Gladys (Kenneth) Hanson of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Ted Prichard of McCook Lake, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger; a brother, Russell (Joan) Miller; four sisters, Bethine (Bob) Morse, Wilma (Orlo) Johnson, Elizabeth (Robert) Nutt and Jeannine Clemon; a sister-in-law, Barbara Prichard; a brother-in-law, Frank Hewett; and twin great-grandsons, Robert and John Klingensmith.

Memorials may be sent to Hornick United Methodist Church or Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.
