Blencoe, Iowa—Merrill Roy Carlson, 79, of Blencoe died Friday, January 21, 2000 at Elmwood Care Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Church of Christ in Blencoe, with the Rev. John Noer officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today, at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Carlson was born October 24, 1920 in Blencoe, the son of Roy and Lucy (Atkinson) Carlson. He grew up in Blencoe and graduated from Blencoe High School in 1937.

He married Louise Shaw on November 1, 1941, in Blencoe. The couple farmed in the Blencoe area.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ.

He was a 50-year member of Stevens-Kelley American Legion Post 665 at Blencoe.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Jeanette and Dick Bahr of Estherville, Iowa; two sons and their wives; Dennis and Cathy of Hampton, Iowa and Doug and Carolyn of Copenhagen, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Annette Carlson of Blencoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene.

Merrill Roy Carlson, 79, of Blencoe died Friday, January 21, 2000 at Elmwood Care Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Merrill was born October 24, 1920 in Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lucy (Atkinson) Carlson. He grew up in Blencoe and graduated from Blencoe High School in 1937. On November 1, 1941, he married Louise Shaw in Blencoe. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He lived and farmed in the Blencoe area all his life.

He was a 50-year member of the United Church of Christ and the Stevens-Kelley American Legion Post 665 both at Blencoe.

Survivors include his wife, Louise of Blencoe; One daughter and her husband, Jeanette and Dick Bahr of Estherville, Iowa; two sons and their wives; Dennis and Cathy of Hampton, Iowa and Doug and Carolyn of Copenhagen, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Annette Carlson of Blencoe.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2000 at United Church of Christ in Blencoe, Iowa, with the Pastor John Noer officiating. The organist, Mrs. Robert Collison, Jr, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, in the selections “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” and “Ivory Palaces”. The congregation sang “We Praise Thee, O God” and “O For A Thousand Tongues”.

Casket Bearers were G. David Carlson, George Cunningham, JoEllen Lage, Tim Shaw, Richard Shaw and Terry Pekarek.
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe, Iowa, with Military Services by Stevens-Kelly American Legion Post #665 of Blencoe, Iowa.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.
