Onawa, Iowa—Goldie Irene Carlson, 98, of Onawa, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Monday, January 17, 2000 at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa, with the Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 7 p.m. at Rush Family Care Chapel in Onawa.

Mrs. Carlson was born October 19, 1901, in Verden, Nebraska, the daughter of Asa and Arminta (Friley) Smith. She moved with her family to Salix, Iowa as a child.

She married Edwin J. Carlson on June 14, 1923, in Salix. The couple made their home on the Carlson family farm until moving to Onawa in 1985. The entered Elmwood Care Centre in 1990. He died in April 1993.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Deloris and Marvin Sletten of Mason City, Iowa and Jean and Lewis Hadden of Castana, Iowa; a sister, Mayme Crocket of Pittsburg, Kansas; a brother, Merle Smith of Neosho, Mo. a sister-in-law, Ruby Morton of Whiting, Iowa; three granddaughters, Lee Clough, Patricia Jones and Linda Harnish; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde and Joe and a brother in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Tony Swanson, Alton Morton, Dan Barnes, Jerry Jones, Keeley and Patrick Harnish.

Memorials may be directed to Skien Lutheran Church.
