Robert Bernard Christiansen was born January 15, 1921, on a farm east of Mapleton, Iowa. He died January 1, 2010 in Onawa at the age of 88.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at St. Matthew, Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Message in the music was provide by Jule Hamann, organist and the congregation sang, “Children of Heavenly Father”, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”, and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Peter Smith, Bonard Christiansen, Brent Christiansen, Dennis Namanny, Kevin Gosch, Charles “Bud” Dose and Leo Dose. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton.Robert was the son of Bernard and Eleanore (Clausen) Christiansen. Robert’s parents moved to a farm northwest of Mapleton in 1941, where he helped his parents with the farming.
Robert and Evelyn Wiig were married January 17, 1943. They were blessed with three children, Joan, Bruce, and Julie. Robert and Evelyn continued to farm on that farm until 1988, when they retired and moved to Mapleton.He was baptized in 1921 and confirmed in 1934. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton where he served on various boards for many years.
He is survived by Evelyn, he wife of 67 years; a daughter, Joan Valdez and her husband, Fred, of Amarillo, Texas; a son, Bruce Christiansen and his wife Merry, of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Elmer Christiansen and his wife, Dee of Hutchison, Kansas; and numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie; his parents; sisters, Mahela Meyer, Adeline Namanny, Marie Gosch, and Margaret Christiansen; and an infant brother.Arrangements were under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home.
