24 December 2002Doris B. Thomas, age 85, of Sloan, died Sunday evening, December 1, 2002 at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting where she had resided for five days.
Doris was born in Sloan on August 19, 1917 the daughter of Fred and Annie (Anderson) Larson. She grew up in Sloan and graduated from Sloan High School in 1936. On June 13, 1942, she was united in marriage to Leslie M. (Bud) Thomas at Blair, NE. She was a lifelong resident of the Sloan Community. She was a member of the Skien Lutheran Church. She liked to play cards and to dance with a good partner.
Doris is survived by two sons; Richard Thomas and his wife Jane of Salix; Russell Thomas and his wife Barbara of Salix; one daughter; Jane Guerra and friend Robert Marquez of Waco, Texas; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Ethel Hopkins of Clearfield, Utah, Evelyn Clifford of Long Beach, California.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leslie in 1999; sister Esther Thomas and two brothers; Merle and Lynn Larson.
Memorial Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa, with Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating.
Musical Selections were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
