TURIN, Iowa -- Dennis Mikkelson, 56, of Turin passed away suddenly at his residence.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Dennis was born June 29, 1953, at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Walter Jr. and Ruth (Nelson) Mikkelson. He was raised in the Turin area and graduated from West Monona High School in 1971. He farmed with his father and was also a short-haul truck driver.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Mikkelson of Turin, Iowa; three children, Alex, Aaron and Claire Mikkelson of Mapleton, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Vickie and Kent Miller of Fairfield, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Ron and Dawn Mikkelson of Sioux City; and three nieces, Nicole Mikkelson of Johnson, Iowa, Lauren Mikkelson of Decatur, Ill., and Sarah Bolte of Bruning, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, Charles.
