Douglas J. Uhl 1954 – 2009

Douglas J. Uhl, 55, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Services were held Saturday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Mapleton. Message in the music was provided by Karen Krusen, organist and the congregation sang “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers were Doug Hagaman, Mike Meyer, David Hoaglund, Doyle Slavik D.V.M. Eugene Means and Mike Flanigan. Honorary Pallbearers were his grandchildren Madison Uhl, Hannah Uhl, Shelly Uhl and Phillip Uhl.

Douglas John Uhl was born March 1, 1954, in Mapleton, Iowa the son of Donald and the late Lois (Woltermann) Uhl. He graduated from the Maple Valley High School in 1973.

Doug farmed his entire life and in recent years was also employed at Gomaco. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with family, tractor pulls and being part of the Monona County Fair Board.

Survivors include two sons, Todd and his special friend Shelly Bruxvort of Sheldon, Iowa, Steven and his wife Amanda and one daughter Jessica, all of Mapleton; four grandchildren, Madison, Hannah, Shelly and Phillip; his father Donald Uhl of Mapleton; three brothers and their spouses Greg and Judy Uhl and Jerry and Sharon Uhl all of Ida Grove and Tom and Deb Uhl from Danbury and one sister Jean Uhl of Sioux City, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois (Wolterman) Uhl; and his grandparents, Joe and Pearl Uhl and Pete and Theresa Wolterman.

Arrangements were under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home.
