13 April 2002ONAWA, Iowa -- Ben Jester, 89, of Onawa died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Mike Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Ben was born Sept. 5, 1912, in Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Levi and Carrie LaVerne (Heller) Jester. He attended school in the Little Sioux and Magnolia, Iowa, areas.
On Jan. 2, 1943, he was married to Charlotte Durr in Onawa. He farmed until 1966, when he owned and operated Soo Tavern in Onawa until retiring.
He enjoyed watching baseball and football. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the University of Nebraska football team.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; a son, John; stepson, Keith Hatt; two grandchildren, Ranee and Shaun Jester; and two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Austin, all of Onawa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Paul and Ed; and five sisters, Hester Orr, Lela Huyck, Hazel Maxwell, Hattie Harvey and Opal Peterson.
