James Earl Miller, 67, Mapleton, Iowa, died August 25, 1985, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa after a long illness.

He was born August 19, 1918, at Oto, Iowa, to Earl and Hazel (Benton) Miller. On January 9, 1939, he was united in marriage to Ora Ione Green at Bayard, Iowa. He had been a farmer, cemetery caretaker, and a co-op business manager. They had lived in Mapleton for the past 24 years.

Survivors include his wife, Ora Ione; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Beulah) Lea of Minneapolis and Mrs. Michael (Gaylen) Buck of Vail; two sons, James of Vail and Scott of Joplin, Mo.: his father; Earl Miller, Sr. of Mapleton; four brothers, Bill of Mapleton, Orville of Florida and Raymond and Earl, Jr. both of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; a foster grandchild; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 1985, at the Willman Funeral Chapel, at Rodney, Iowa with Rev. William Davis officiating. Mrs. Ellen Harbeck was the organist.

Bearers were Craig Reynolds, Chad Reynolds, Roger Anderson, David Lea, Ray Bennett and Michael Buck.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa, with arrangements by the Willman Funeral Home, Rodney.
