Services held for Veteran on January 23

Ervin E. Shever, age 93, of Correctionville, Iowa, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services were held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, Iowa with Pastor Consorcia A. Sanchez officiating. .Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Mumford Moon Post #79 and V.F.W. Post #1750, both of Correctionville. Wren Smith was the soloist and organist for the service and music was “Amazing Grace:, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong. Funeral Home of Anthon.

Ervin Earl Shever was born October 18, 1907, in rural Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Earl Thomas and Myrtle L. (Worthan) Shever. He grew up and was educated in the Correctionville area. Ervin served his country during World War II in the United States Army for which he was bestowed the Purple Heart. After returning home, his life’s work was in farming. He entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa December 10, 1991 where he continued to reside until his death.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville and the American Legion Mumford Moon Post #79 and the V.F.W. Post #1750, both of Correctionville.

Those survivors left to cherish Ervin’s memory include two sisters, Maxine Wright of Correctionville, Iowa and Gwen England and her husband Ray of Anthon, Iowa, along with other relatives, neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alvin and Kenneth.

Pallbearers were George Heckman, Bob Jeffrey, Chris Sands, Raymond Shever, Francis Larsen and Brent Hansen.
