MOORHEAD, Iowa -- Helen Thoreson Pickle, 84, of Moorhead died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with the Rev. Carla Ingebretsen officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Helen was the eldest of 10 children, born Sept. 5, 1919, in Shelby County, Iowa, the daughter of George and Vera (Hack) McCord. She graduated from Dunlap (Iowa) High School and attended normal training school in Storm Lake, Iowa. She taught at Grove 3 country school located east of Dunlap.

She married Norman Thoreson on June 15, 1939. The couple farmed in the Moorhead area, where they raised their five children. Norman died Dec. 25, 1976. She later married Jim Pickle, who passed away in 1990.

Survivors include her children, Richard Thoreson and his wife, JoAnn of Mapleton, Iowa, Donald Thoreson and his wife, Carole of Ankeny, Iowa, Marlene McCall of Moorhead, and Marcia Thoreson of Moorhead; seven grandchildren, Kathy Jo Hagemann and her husband, Douglas, Ted Thoreson, Samara Garton and her husband, Mike, Brandon Thoreson, Briana Thoreson, John McCall and his wife, Adi, and Joel McCall and his special friend, Lisa Brasel; seven great-grandchildren, Jared Hagemann, Kysa Jo Hagemann, Taylor Thoreson, Tyson Thoreson, Trista Thoreson, Maxwell Garton and Cole Garton; four sisters, Ruby Mathison, Arletta Morse, Virginia Campbell and Carol Thompson and her husband, Jack; two brothers and their wives, Harold and Nancy McCord and Ronald and Dorothy McCord; a sister-in-law, Marge McCord; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Morris and Wally Peterson.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Leo Charles; her parents; two sisters, Ina Peterson and Vesta Morris; and a brother, Clair McCord.
