Last Rites for Laura Montgomery

Mrs. Laura Montgomery, daughter of Jonathan and Alice Follette was born near Neola, Iowa on November 9, 1877 and passed from this life at Onawa, Iowa on October 6, 1962 at the age of 84 years 10 months and 27 days.

On December 16, 1896 she was united in marriage with Elias Montgomery at Council Bluffs. To this union were born two daughters and one son.

Mrs. Montgomery had resided in the Onawa area since 1917 with the exception of eight years that were spent in the Ticonic community. Since the death of her husband in 1945 she had resided most of the time with a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Fox.

Survivors are two daughters- Mrs. Ira (Jessie) Johns of Merrill, Iowa, Mrs. Jennie Fox of Onawa, Iowa: two sisters- Mrs. R.D. Holland of Boulder, Colo. and Mrs. C.W. Andrews of Denver, Colo.; one brother—Eugene Follette of Norfork, Nebr., three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One son Earl died in 1923 and she was also preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.

The funeral service was held on Monday, October 8 to 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Onawa. Rev Paul R. Johnson conducted the services. Mrs. Willie Jensen sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer” accompanied by Mrs. Oliver Kelley. The casket bearers were Clarence and Maurice Bakke, Charles and Eugene Persinger, Orlo Johnson and Wayne Riggs. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
