Double Funeral Services Held

Double funeral services were held Wednesday, September 22, 1971 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Whiting for Mr. and Mrs. Gail Pullen who passed away a day apart. The Rev. Richard Lankford officiated. George Brenden gave comfort in song, accompanied by Nancy Linden. Bearers for Mrs. Pullen were Arnold Brenden, Stephen Allen, John Holmes, Don Croker, M.J. Whiting Jr. and Edwin Whiting. Bearers for Mr. Pullen were Loyd Fiscus, George Ruth, Ross Willey, Bernell Waugh, John Scott and Elvin Matthews.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery where graveside rites for Mr. Pullen were given by members of Weston Lodge, No. 562, A.F & A.M. Jewell Waugh, orator. The Wood Funeral Home of Whiting was in charge of arrangements.

Zoe Hagan Pullen

Zoe Hagen Pullen passed away Monday, September 20, 1971 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. She had reached the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 9 days.
She was born March 11, 1886 at Blencoe, Iowa, the daughter of Douglas and Effie Hagan and had been a resident of Whiting most of her lifetime. She was united in marriage to Gail C. Pullen on December 29, 1909, at Onawa, Iowa.

Always interested in the affairs of her community, she was a member of the church of Christ of Whiting; the Dorcas Society of the church; the Fellowship of the Congregational Church of Whiting; the Whiting Women’s Club and the Congenial Country Club. Survivors are two sons, Maldon H. Pullen, Whiting and Don M. Pullen, Sheffield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Hagan, Hollywood, Fla., and one sister, Mrs. B R. Danforth (Pearl) Onawa, Iowa.

Gail Criner Pullen
Gail Criner Pullen passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1971 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He had reached the age of 86 years, 11 months and 20 days. He was born 26 Sept. 1884 at Onawa, Iowa the son of M and Julia Pullen and has spent his entire lifetime in the Whiting area. He chose farming as his profession and followed this occupation as long as his health permitted.
On December 29, 1909 he was united in marriage to Zoe Bell Hagan of Onawa.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, Whiting; Weston Lodge No. 562, A.F. & A.M. of which he was a past master, a 52 year member of a district lecturer. He was also a past president of the Monona County Land Bank and a graduate of Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa in 1908.
Survivors include the two sons Maldon H. Pullen of Whiting and Don M. Pullen of Sheffield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one brother, Keats A. Pullen of Santa Cruz, Calif.
