Sophie Torgerson, 90, a longtime resident of Soldier, Iowa passed away at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa on February 13, 1974. She was born in Aurskoo, Norway on September 18, 1883, the daughter of Kasper and Karen Mikkelrud.

When she was 18 years of age she came to this country. She was united in marriage to Martin Torgerson on February 27, 1904, at Soldier, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1970. She had been a member of the Lutheran Church in Soldier throughout her life in the community.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Sam (Ethel) Sorensen of Moorhead, Iowa and one son, Alvin Torgerson of Onawa, Iowa. There are 11 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 1974, at the Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor William G. Carter officiating. Mrs. Charles Dommer Jr. sang “In The Garden” accompanied by Mrs. Harry Andersen, organist.

Bearers were Andy Swenson, Don Mathys, Roy Hadden, James Hadden, Harry Andersen and Joe Jary. Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Church cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
