Henrietta A Mohr 1909-2000

Henrietta A. Mohr was born on a farm in Monona County, rural Mapleton, Iowa, January 24, 1909, the daughter of Gustav E and Bertha L Eckhoff Marten. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism March 21, 1909, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa and confirmed in her Christian faith April 9, 1922 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa.

The family resided on the farm near Mapleton until 1917 when they moved to a farm near Ute, later moving into the town of Ute. She received her education in the rural schools until moving to Ute where she attended the Lutheran Parochial School before being graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1926. She then fouthered her education for one year at a Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a book-keeper for her father's business. On June 6, 1929, Henrietta was united in marriage with Fredrich Martin Mohr at St Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two sons, Roger and James. They made their home in Ute until 1940 when they moved to the Mohr family farm at Schleswig, Iowa. Henrietta's life on the farm was a busy one raising her family and assisiting her husband with the farm work. In 1965 they retired and moved to Denison.

Fredrich died December 31, 1967 and Henrietta continued ro reside in Denison.

Her retirement years were an asset to the Denison community where she spent countless hours volunteering her time. Recipients of her volunteer hours were organizations of which she was a member including the American Legion, V.F.W. Eventide and hospital Auxiliaries, Denison Senior Center where she voluntered 30 hours a month and the many friends she gave rides to various activities, meetings and church. She was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison where she was active in the Evening Guild and Lamplighters. In her spare time she enjoyed her hobbies of arts and crafts, sewing, quilting and crocheting. Due to failing health she moved to the Denison Care Center in June of this year.

Henrietta died Monday evening, September 25, 2000 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 91 years 8 months and 1 day.

Including her parents and husband, Henrietta was preceded in death by one sister, Adella Marten, one brother Vern Marten and one son, Roger Mohr.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include one son, James Mohr and his wife, Anita of Roseville, Minnesota, one daughter-in-law, Marie Mohr of Vail, Iowa; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, other relatives, her church family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2000 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. David P Loeschen officiating. Music for the service included the congregational hymns of "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus". Mary Kuhlmann served as organist. Honorary bearers included John Schneider, Bert Gustafson, Marcus Kuhl, Blaine Butler, Don Waderich and Warren Hawn. Casket bearers were Eugene and Karen Mohr, Martin and Betty Mohr, Gaylen and Lynette Mohr and John and Vickie Lener. Interment was at Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa.

The Pfannebeker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
