ONAWA, Iowa -- Gladys Anne Anderson, 92, of Andover, Kan., formerly of Onawa, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Andover Health Center.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.

Mrs. Anderson was born June 7, 1909, to John Edward and Ida Christina (Swanson) Anderson. She was the youngest of nine children and was born on a farm near Sloan, Iowa. She was baptized at an early age and confirmed into the Swedish Mission Covenant Church in Albaton, Iowa. She spent her childhood on the farm where she was born. She graduated from Sloan High School in 1927.

She was united in marriage to Archie George Anderson on March 20, 1929, and they both farmed in Monona County, near Blencoe, Iowa, for the first six years. They moved to Onawa and the couple owned and operated "ART'S," a local tavern, for the next 35 years before retiring. Mr. Anderson passed away Aug. 15, 1983.

Gladys will be remembered for her many years of volunteer services at the Elmwood Nursing Home and the joy and love she shared with the many residents over the years. Her love for music and dance was a large part of her life, and she shared many hours playing the piano and organ at gatherings with others. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 129. Gladys loved spending time with children and welcomed many hours of playing games and baking with the neighbor children, who she referred to as her Little Birds. She was an avid follower of the West Monona High School basketball program and attended many games. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and attended their ladies circle.

Due to failing health, she moved to Wichita, Kan., in December 1998 to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She became a resident of the Andover Health Care Center in August 1999.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Robert and Darlene of Wichita and Myron "Mike" and Donna of Sioux City; four grandsons, Stephen, Kevin and Brian of Kansas, and Scott of Onawa; a granddaughter, Andrea Robinson of Sioux City; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.
