Mapleton, Iowa. William R. “Bill” Jensen of Mapleton died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital at the age of 72years, 3 months and 25 days.

Visitation a vigil wake service and a rosary said by the Knights of Columbus, were held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don, Michael, Tom and Andy Jensen, Bob Mines and Rick Vander Horst. Honorary Pallbearers were Bill’s grandchildren Kristin, Kimberly, Jeff, Elizabeth, Lucas, Laura, Mallory, Nicholas and Catherine Jensen, Michael and Matthew Mines, and Kayleen and Seth Vander Horst.

William R Jensen was born October 22, 1928, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Josie Jensen. He lived his entire life in the Mapleton community. On February 8, 1949, he married Dorothy Brenner. He farmed outside of Mapleton until 1983, when he and Dorothy moved into Mapleton. He continued to work as an insurance adjuster and started his own insurance agency, Jensen Insurance Agency, specializing in crop insurance. Dorothy died October 1, 1994.

William was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton and the Knights of Columbus.

Those survivors left to cherish Bill’s memory include four sons and their wives, Don and Rhonda Jensen of Gahanna, Ohio, Michael and Debbie Jensen of Castana, Iowa, Tom and Joyce Jensen of Sante Fe, New Mexico, and Andy and Barb Jensen of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Bob Mines of Littleton, Colorado and Karen and Rick Vander Horst of Pella, Iowa; a brother, Beryl “Butch” of Indianola, Iowa; a sister, Maxine Jacobus of Whittier, She leaves to mourn her aged husband, her daughter, Mrs. W.H. Wood, William Welliver, an only brother, six grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
