ONAWA, Iowa -- James Jay "Jim" Johnson, 61, of Onawa passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at his home in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa. Burial of the cremains will be in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin, Iowa. Pastor Don Collison will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Jay "Jim" Johnson, son of Oscar Clarence and Hope Leone (Shea) Johnson, was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Denison, Iowa. Jim was raised in Moorhead, Iowa. The family then moved to Spencer, Iowa, and later to Wall Lake, Iowa. When Jim was a teenager, the family moved to Onawa, where he graduated from high school. He then attended Dana College in Blair, Neb., for one year.

Jim had made his home in Onawa for many years and enjoyed the company of his neighbors. He enjoyed the outdoors, local government and politics, reading and the companionship of his dog, Luther.

He is survived by an aunt, Ruth Johnson of Onawa, and special friends, Ralph and Dora Mae Miller of Onawa.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Hope Johnson; a sister in infancy, Patricia Ann; as well as aunts; uncles; and cousins.
