WHITING, Iowa -- Jerry Albert Rowe, 74, of Whiting died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Whiting Church of Christ, with Rusty Hadger, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Whiting Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Jerry was born June 23, 1927, in Whiting, the son of Albert and Doris (Irish) Rowe. He lived his entire life in Whiting, where he graduated from Whiting High School in 1945.

He married Mollie Hale on Jan. 19, 1946, in Onawa. He operated Jerry's Auto Service and maintained the Whiting school buses for over 50 years.

He was involved in city government for over 50 years, serving as councilman and then as mayor for the past 20 years. He was instrumental in receiving several grants for the infrastructure of Whiting. He also served as a volunteer for over 50 years on the Whiting Fire Department, held several offices on Simpco and helped to establish Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, where he was serving on the board at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, David and Lisa Rowe of Bridgeport, Conn.; two daughters, Kathy Carlson of LaPorte City, Iowa, and Chris and her husband, Jim Wigram of Dublin, Ohio; three grandchildren, Blaine and his wife, Laurie Carlson, Reid and his wife, Stephanie Carlson and Kimberly Wigram; three great-grandsons, Alec, Nathan and Jake Carlson; a brother, Thorne Rowe of Whiting; three sisters, Nadine Okerblad of Boxholm, Iowa, Sue Gries of Onawa and Jerrine Clark of Omaha; and his extended family and many friends and associates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bob, Dare, Deon and Dean; and two sisters, Dawn Wiley and Betty Jo McCaw.
