Rose Ann Hamman, age 77 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Monday, January 24, 2005 in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. Bonita Kane was the organist for the service and Tim Goslin was the soloist. He sang, "Amazing Grace", "Gentle Woman" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". On Wednesday a rosary by St. Mary's Guild was held at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Rose Ann (Reitz) Hamman was born June 27, 1927, at Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Hesse) Reitz. She was raised around the Mapleton and Schleswig area. On August 18, 1947, Rose was united in marriage to John Hamman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. The couple farmed northwest of Mapleton until retiring to town in 1982. John died March 25, 1993.

Rose Ann was active in Mapleton as a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, the Council of Catholic Women, American Legion Auxiliary Unit #496, and the Royal Neighbors 1993 of America. She was also a member of the Friendly Coffee Get Togethers, and the A.N.R. Social Club along with having been a past member of the Bowling League for over 30 years. She also worked at the American Legion Bingo on Sunday nights and volunteered her services at the Mapleton Food Pantry.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Joan and Dennis Knuth of Wausau, Wisconsin, Janice and Richard Olson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Julie and Kreg Schultz of Lawton, Iowa; two sons, Richard Hamman and his wife, Linda, of Mapleton, Iowa and Wayne Hamman, also of Mapleton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren; and her very special friend, Adolph Neddermeyer of Charter Oak, Iowa and his family.

Along with her husband, Rose was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Larry, a granddaughter, Toni Knuth, two brothers, Ervin and Elmer Reitz, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Hamman.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Lori Minnihan, Carrie Dirksen, Shannon Martin, Katie Schultz, Jill Rasmussen, Kurtis Schultz, Aaron Knuth, Torey Martin and John Minnihan.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Elvin Rasmussen, Corey Hamman, Mark Hamman, Cody Hamman, Michael McClain and Ray Dirksen.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
