July 17, 1916 – January 28, 2005

Ada D. Habinck, age 88 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Friday, January 28, 2005 in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 31 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Marie Whiteing was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "In The Garden". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Ada Dorothy Habinck was born July 17, 1916, at Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Ultsch) Castle. She grew up in Ticonic. On December 24, 1936, Ada was united in marriage to Ralph Parker Habinck in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple then moved to Mapleton where Ada lived the rest of her life. She and Ralph enjoyed 53 years of marriage before his death on May 1, 1989.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton as well as the Eastern Star. Her greatest joy was taking care of others and seeing that they were fed. She was referred to as "Grandma Ada" by a countless number of area children.

Those survivors left to cherish the memory of Ada include one daughter and her husband, Betty and Garlin Kunze of Mapleton, Iowa, and one son and his wife, Gale and Nancy Habinck of Waterloo, Iowa; six grandchildren, Julie, Gene, John, Joel, April, and Kellie; 14 great grandchildren, Kenny, Jeremiah, Olivia, Ethan, Isaac, Jordan, Haley, Samantha, Jayda, Alyssa, Calvin, Wyatt, Ashley, and Brittany; two sisters and their husbands, Darlene and Joe Williams of Auburn, California and Eva and Paul Schumacher of Mapleton, Iowa; six brothers, Russell Castle of Rodney, Iowa, Harold Castle and his wife, Gladys, of Tabor, South Dakota, Leslie Castle and his wife, Janice, of Mapleton, Iowa, Art Castle and his wife, Jean, and Jim Castle, all of Smithland, Iowa, and Gary Castle and his wife, Betty, of Mapleton, Iowa along with a host of other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Along with her husband, Ada was preceded in death by her parents, one son, LeRoy; one daughter, Judy; two brothers, George and Floyd; and two sisters-in-law, Josephine Castle and Clara Castle.

Pallbearers were Darrell Huebner, Gene Habinck, John Habinck, Joe Habinck, Mike Riffey and Jeff Gee.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
