Soldier, Iowa--Vernon E Knutson, 73, of Soldier died Saturday Dec. 2, 1989, in a nursing home in Onawa after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Soldier Lutheran Church with the Rev Larry Sydow officiating.

Burial will be in Soldier Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in Walter Funeral Home in Ute.

Mr Knutson was born Nov 19, 1916 in rural Soldier. He farmed for 44 years in the Soldier, Dunlap and Ute Communities. He married Lucille Roberg Dec. 16, 1945 in Soldier.

Mr Knutson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church, Dunlap American Legion Post 224, Ute Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605 and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille, two sons, Larry Knutson of Mission Viejo, Calif and Steven Knutson of Mesa, Ariz: two brothers, Harlan of St Cloud, Minn and William of Omaha: and three sisters, Mrs Mercedes Jenkinson of Omaha, Mrs Kenneth (Lucille) Gorham of Dunlap and Vivian Knutson of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clayton
