ONAWA, Iowa -- Karen Denise Gosch, 37, of Onawa died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with the Rev. Jack Torgersen officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Karen was born Feb. 24, 1965, at Onawa Hospital, the daughter of Herbert and Alice (Rude) Gosch. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of Soldier Lutheran Church.

Karen was born with cerebral palsy and resided at rural Castana, Iowa, with her parents until February 2001. She was a resident of Elmwood Care Centre for the past year.

Karen loved life. While living on the farm she enjoyed watching the chickens, birds at the bird feeders and the other farm animals. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially the Fourth of July hay rides. She dearly loved her brothers and sisters and their families.

Karen enjoyed watching television including stories as Bonanza, Little House of the Prairie, The Waltons, Christy and her collection of Shirley Temple tapes. She also was interested in watching the presidential inauguration, Miss America and Iowa Hawkeye basketball.

After entering the Care Centre, it was exciting for her to go to story time, church bingo, and the beauty shop for a perm and the red hair "out of the bottle." Most of all she loved the people who learned to love her as we did. She lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include her mother, Alice Gosch; two brothers and their wives, Leonard and Diane Gosch of Castana, and David and Linda Gosch of Charter Oak, Iowa; five sisters and their husbands, Becky and Dennis Marcum of Moorhead, Iowa, Marla and Rick Bianchini of South Sioux City, Wanita and Lloyd Myers Jr. of Onawa, Sharon and Bob Mahlberg of Soldier, and Connie and Dave Jansen of Onawa; 17 nieces and nephews; and nine grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert F. Gosch; and grandparents, Fredrich and Amalie (Henkel) Gosch and Conrad and Olga (Larson) Rude.
