Whiting, Iowa-- Flavia Mae (Mander) McCandless, 92, of Whiting passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Whiting Christian Church with the Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Flavia was born Jan 6 1911, near Onawa, the daughter of Edward and Alma Mander.

She married Courtney McCandless on Jan. 10, 1931. The couple farmed and raised their children in the Whiting area. Countney passed away June 27, 1970.

She was a member of Whiting Christian Church, Dorcas Society and Ashton Township Women's Club.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Bertel and Ardis and Roger and Carol, all of Whiting; a daughter-in-law, Jo;een of Challis, Idaho; six grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elvin and his wife, Joyce of Onawa. Elroy of Crescent, Iowa, and Ervin and his wife, Marjorie of Waverly, Iowa; two sister-in-laws, Lula Mander and Phyllis Mander, both of Onawa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Leon Everett, who passed away in infancy, and Donnie who passed away in 1999; two sisters, Muriel Clark and Florence Anderson; and four brothers, Ernest, who died in infancy, Elmer, Edward and Earl Mander.
