Onawa, Iowa--Andrew Charles Merritt, 17, of Onawa died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Revs. Dennis Olsen and DOnald R. Ludwick officiating. Andrew was an organ donor and his body will be cremated following the services. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Andrew was born Oct. 20, 1985, in Onawa, the son of Richard and Petrina (Arneson) Merritt. Andrew attended West Monona Community Schools, where he would have been a senior in the fall. Andrew worked part time at Bomgaars and had his hands in the family business, Merritts Pumping Service and Portable Restrooms.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa. Andrew was active with Cub Scouts, soccer, baseball, track and Ducks Unlimited as a Legacy Greenwing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling and jet skiing.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Chris at home and Rich in Boston, Mass; a sister, Misti and her husband, Tony of Onawa; two nieces, Madison and Tara; three nephews, Devin, Dylan and Dalton; his paternal grandmother, Rose Block of Castana; and many other loving relatives.
