Howard was born March 4, 1914, in Moreland, Okla., the son of Earl W. and Dosha (Simms) Miller. In 1918, the Miller family moved to Agricola, Kan., to farm. They made their home on the Boulden farm, nine miles northwest of Onawa. He farmed from 1941 until 1975, when his poor health forced him into early retirement from farming and he moved to Whiting. Mrs. Miller passed away Oct. 14, 1993.

He was a member of Weston Lodge 562 A.F. & A.M. in Whiting. He was a former member of the Whiting Co-op Elevator and was a Lincoln Township trustee. He also was a member of Onawa United Methodist Church.
