TURIN, Iowa -- Nyda Evaleen Gleason, 80, of Turin died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Turin United Methodist Church in Turin, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. A private family burial will be at a later date in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Nyda was born July 2, 1927, in Turin, Iowa, the daughter of Claude Lawson and Meta Marie (Sorenson) Wagner. She was a lifelong resident of Turin, where she attended country school and graduated from Castana High School.
Nyda and Irving Norval Gleason were united in marriage on May 2, 1946, in Vail, Iowa. The couple made their home in Turin and raised their six children. Irving died April 3, 1987, at Onawa, Iowa. Nyda worked at Burkes Grocery Store and was a cook at Moss Nursing Home in Onawa, Bennett Nursing Home in Turin and Burgess Hospital in Onawa, where she retired.

She was a member of Turin United Methodist Church and was custodian over 20 years. Nyda enjoyed gardening, reading, watching the squirrels and birds and cooking for family and friends. Her home was always open with the coffeepot and goodies waiting for visitors.

Survivors include her children, Linda Franks (Jim) of Galveston Island, Texas, Steve Gleason (Julie) of Moorhead, Iowa, Lark Addy (Todd Pratt) of Moorhead, Lisa Gleason of Turin and Jeffrey Gleason of Kulm, N.D.; grandchildren, Tony and Tonya Hanson, Missy Gorham, Jaimie and Jessica Addy, Brady Pratt, Dawn, Michele, Stephanie and Rebecca; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, C. Paul Wagner of Onawa; an aunt, Doris Wagner of Onawa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Garry; two brothers, Parnell "Pinky" and Hans "Barney" Wagner; and an infant brother, James Wagner.
