Herbert William Neumann
UTE, Iowa -- Herbert W. Neumann, 82, of Ute died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Aaby Post 442 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5606, both of Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Herbert William Neumann was born Sept. 11, 1924, on the family farm south of Ute, the son of William and Lena (Bramstedt) Neumann. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute and later confirmed there in April 1938. He attended school in Ute. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army.

On June 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Wilma Klaus at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Martin Klaus. The couple lived and farmed on the family farm, where they also raised their one son and two daughters. The couple retired in December 1979 and moved into Ute.

He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee on the finance committee and volunteered as an usher for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Aaby Post 442, having held every office at his post, county and district level. In addition, he served at the state level as vice commander.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories include his wife of 54 years, Wilma; a son, Tim Neumann of Ute and his children, Melinda and Paul; two daughters, Sara Meyer of Wenatchee, Wash. and her son, Adam, and Jane and her husband, Joe Coon of Waukee, Iowa and their children, Ian, Nathan and Rachel; a brother and his wife, Harold and Shari Neumann of Underwood, Iowa; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Lincoln City, Ore., and Stella Jansen of Castana, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Walter who died at the age of 14.
