Larry LeRoy Reed
MAPLETON, Iowa -- Larry LeRoy Reed, 62, of Benton City, Wash., formerly of Mapleton, passed away peacefully July 18, 2007, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Larry was born Jan. 13, 1945, the son of Clifford and Lillian Reed. He enjoyed playing football and graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1963. He lived in Sioux City before moving to Kennewick, Wash. During his career, he worked several jobs including work on the railroad, truck driver, radiation removal laborer, heavy equipment operator and all kinds of construction work until he was injured on the job and became disabled in 1989.

He attended Victory Christian Church in Benton City, where memorial services were held Aug. 21. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his two sons and many friends. He loved to dance at the local Eagles Club. He knew no strangers and was known to help anyone who was in need, as he had a heart as big as he was.

He is survived by two sons, John Reed of Lincoln, Neb., and Scott and Becky Reed of Marysville, Wash.; two granddaughters, Taylor and Kennedy of Marysville; two brothers, Kenneth and Beverly of Kingsley, Iowa, and Russ and Karla of Mapleton; three sisters, Evelyn and Vernon Thies of Mapleton, Florence Dean of Danbury, Iowa, and Laurie and Scott Petersen of Battle Creek, Iowa; aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
