BLENCOE, Iowa -- Maxine A. Nielsen, 87, of Blencoe, formerly of Moorhead, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Kingsley (Iowa) Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with Pastor Carla Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Maxine was born Jan. 25, 1920, the daughter of John D. and Lillian (Harris) Comfort of Blencoe. She graduated from Blencoe High School and attended business college in Sioux City.

On Aug. 26, 1941, she married Robert "Bob" A. Nielsen. The couple farmed near Moorhead, where Maxine was a homemaker. She also worked side-by-side with Bob in the fields and gardens. She will be remembered as an excellent cook whose cinnamon rolls, pies and tea rings warmed many hearts and homes during the years.

She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, serving as Sunday school teacher for three decades and helping wherever she was needed, which was usually in the kitchen washing dishes. She was a member and served as worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Moorhead.

Maxine was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother devoted to her family. Her cheerful smile and disposition warmed the hearts of all who met her.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Bruce Carlson of Kingsley and Colleen and Gail "Wally" Wallenberg of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kristin (Dar) Quastad, Rick Shaffer, Nicole (Quinn) Damgaard and Joshua (Joanna) Wallenberg; and five great-grandchildren, Travis Shaffer, Colton and Jaden Quastad and Brooklyn and Camdyn Damgaard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; a sister, Reva Anderson; and an infant brother.

A memorial in Maxine's name has been established at Bethesda Lutheran Church.
