Nancy Burke

Nancy J. Burke, age 48 of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Ida Grove.
Services were held 10;30 a.m. Saturday, January 24, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury with Rev. David Hemann officiating. Burial was in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery.

Nancy Joan Burke was born February 24, 1955 at Ida Grove, the daughter of Michael Cecil and Norma (Treiber) Burke. She grew up in the Danbury, Iowa area and graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1973. She then worked in Sioux City, Iowa. On March 10, 1978, she married Steve Behrendsen. They initially lived at Battle Creek, Iowa and moved onto the Hornick-Whiting area, Smithland, Mapleton, Council Bluffs, and Neola, Iowa. Nancy moved to Ida Grove in May of 1999. Her life’s work was primarily found in the catering business and as a Certified Nurse’s Aide.

Those survivors left to cherish Nancy’s memory include her mother, Norma Burke of Danbury, Iowa; two sons, Dustin Behrendsen and his wife, Allison of Schleswig, Iowa and Jason Behrendsen of Cherokee, Iowa and his special friend, Kristin Powell; one daughter, Rachel Behrendsen of Ida Grove, Iowa and her special friend, Charlie Montgomery, four sisters, Bonnie Holtz and her husband, Arthur “Butch” of Hinton, Iowa, Beverly McNamara and her husband, Tom of Mapleton, Iowa, Rita Strom and her husband, Rich of Sioux City, Iowa, and Donna Burke and her fiancée, Donald Rodman of Peoria, Arizona; four brothers, Pat Burke and Charlotte Nagel of Gillette, Wyoming, Tim Burke and his wife, Sandy of Mapleton, Iowa, Robert “Bob” Burke and his wife, Mae of Peoria, Arizona, and Ed Burke and his wife, Thyra of Ames, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Doreen Burke of Glendale, Arizona; one brother-in-law, Jim Palmer of Hornick, Iowa and six grandchildren, Alyssa, Dustin James, Austin, Derrick, Devin and Caleb; along with many other relatives and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Cecil Burke, one brother, Michael “Jim” Burke, and one sister, Cindy Jo Palmer.

Pallbearers were Gus Behrendsen, Gary Holtz, Merle Miller, Shane Strom, Jerry Steuk and Charlie Montgomery.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
