Earl Bumsted

Earl L. Bumsted, age 79 of Ute, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will he held at a later date. Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Laverne Bumstead was born June 9, 1925, at Danbury, Iowa, the son of Charles and Nellie (Davis) Bumsted. He grew up and was educated in the Danbury, Mapleton and Smithland areas. He served his country in the United States Army in World War II from 1945 to 1946 and was recalled to serve in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.
On March 2, 1950, Earl was united in marriage to Beverly Hahn Ferch at Elk Point, South Dakota. Beginning in 1953, the couple farmed in the Ute area for 50 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ute as well as the American Legion Aaby Post #442 and the V.F.W. Post #5605, both of Ute. Earl enjoyed going to sales, visiting, hunting, fishing, traveling and his life’s work as a farmer. The greatest love of his life was found in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was proud of all of them.

Those surviving family members include Beverly, his wife of 54 years; one son, Paul and his wife, Ann of Box Elder, South Dakota; two daughters, Sharon Brasel of Sioux City, Iowa, and Susan Craig and her husband, Michael of Bentonville, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Cindy Gullett and her husband, Tracy, of Platte City, Missouri, Karen McGhee and her husband, Stacy, Lisa Stith and her husband, Tracy, and Chris Craig, all of Bentonville, Arkansas; five great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law, Helen Bumsted of Mapleton, Iowa, Helene Bumsted of Ute, Iowa, Barbara Bumsted of Moville, Iowa and Teri Bumsted of St. Louis, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jack in 1973, his parents, six brothers, Gaylord, Charles, Jr. Glen, Lloyd, Floyd and Roy, and four sisters, Mary as an infant, Stella Fredrickson, Nellie Christopherson, and Lucille
