CASTANA, Iowa----Mrs. Betty A. Nutt, 93, of Castana, died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Castana Community Church. The Rev. Richard Hemphenius will officiate. Burial will be at Kennebec Cemetery. A prayer service will be Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton.

Mrs. Nutt, the former Betty Alice McCall was born July 29, 1889, at Fulton County, Mo. The family moved to Castana when she was a child. She lived here until retirement. She moved to a Mapleton nursing home in 1973.

She attended the Normal Teachers Training School at Castana and taught in rural Castana schools. She married Robert B. Nutt Dec. 1, 1909, in Onawa. They farmed until retirement in 1973. Mr. Nutt died June 20, 1976.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Louise V. Illeneuve (Villeneuve), Orange Calif., and Mrs. Donald (Eileen) Reed of Turin; three sons, William of Sioux City, Ernest “Hickory” and Robert, both of Castana; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Oscar (Mertle) Halverson of Mapleton.
