Young Building Contractor Died In Auto Collision

“Bud” Cole Victim of Accident, Saturday Morning 2 ½ Miles Northwest of Whiting.
Daniel Hogancamp Who Was Riding With Cole Received Back Injuries- Hedum, Driver Of The Truck Also Injured

A terrible accident, one that cannot be accounted for, occurred at a country road intersection about 2 ½ miles northwest of Whiting last Saturday morning about 7:30 o’clock when a pickup truck driven by Raymond “Bud” Cole, a young Onawa contractor and a gravel truck driven by Rudolph Hedum collided.
He was a hard worker and learned the carpenter trade early in life and in later years became a successful contractor, a profession he was in when his untimely death came. Mr. Cole was a member of a large family of children and though his untiring efforts he became successful, building for himself and his family a fine home which was in the course of construction at his death.
He loved sports and did his bit in WWII. He was liked by all who knew him, and “Bud” will be missed, not alone by his family and relatives but by the community in which he had spent his life time.
The impact was great and the two trucks were badly damaged.
Mr. Cole received a crushed chest and head injuries in the accident and died almost instantly. Daniel Hogancamp who was accompanying Mr. Cole in the pickup to a building job received a severe back injury and Mr. Hedum driver of the gravel truck received cut and bruises. Both Hogancamp and Hedum were brought to the Onawa hospital where their wounds were administer to and it is reported that they are improving.
As far as can be determined neither one of the drivers of the vehicles saw the other one approaching the intersection until it was too late to stop and the collision followed.
“Bud” as he was known about town was a native son and had spent his entire life here.
