The banking house of Holbrook & Bros was established by Charles H. and Bernard D. Holbrook, in 1865, being the outgrowth of the real-estate business inaugurated by them in 1857, on the inception of the village. The business was commenced in the court-house, in the rooms now occupied by the county auditor and superintendent of schools, and was carried in there until the summer of 1871, when the bank was removed to the neat and tasty brink building, which they had just erected, in which it is now located. They do a general banking and real-estate business; are the oldest bank in the county, and one of the soundest and wealthiest institutions of the kind in this part of the State, being rated at nearly three-quarters of a million dollars capital by the commercial agencies.
