Maurice W. and Dot Marley
Maurice Wm. Marley was the son of John H Marley (1859-1885) and Mary Luea Barcus (1863-1937). Paternal grandparents were Michel M. Marley (1826-1894) and Margaret M. (1821-1895) both born in Screen County Clare, Sligo, Ireland.
Maurice and twin sister Margaret were born in Monona County October 22, 1882. Maurice died in 1943 and Margaret Marley Hime in 1952. Another sister was Bertha Marley Hime (1884-1949) and a brother Eddie who died in 1888 at age 10 months.
Maurice married Mary Dot Kerr daughter of John Kerr, Monona County farmer, and they lived in Blencoe where he operated a pool room. They later began farming and lived in this community until his death in 1943.
They were parents of two sons: John I Marley, born 1910, married to Jane Selling of Omaha, Nebr. and Wayne H Marley, born 1912 and married to Opal Phillips of Blencoe.
John Marleys have two daughters: Janet Marley Smutney, with children, Jeffrey, Jay and Drew who live at Danville, Calf: and Carol Marley Steele, whose children are: Scott, Amy and Craig. They are living in Carmichial, California.
Wayne Marley’s have three daughters: Betty Marley Jones, whose children are Laura and Bruce in Denver, Colo: Linda Marley Hirst, their children are: Kenneth, and Debra and Kandi Marley Schlis, all living in Conifer, Colo.
After her husband died in 1943, Dot moved to her old home with her parents, John and Clara Kerr. After their deaths, she remained there on the farm and in 1974, her sister Blanch Kerr Erichson came to live with her. Both girls had been born there. Now 89 and 87 years of age, they are both living in Elmwood at Onawa.Source: Monona County Iowa History 1982
