When about twenty-two years of age, on account of his abolition sentiments, he removed to Indiana, and settled in Decatur County. There he resided twenty-nine years on a farm which he had entered, but in 1865 removed to Monona County with his family, and located upon section 22, 84, 42, in what is now St. Clair Township. Here he died January 28, 1883.
In 1831 he married Miss Nancy Black, who bore him eight children, and is still living, hale and hearty, at the advanced age of seventy-six years.
