RUTH BEYER BURNED TO DEATH

One of the saddest things of recent occurrence is the tragic death of little Ruth Beyer, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Beyer living three miles southwest of St. Ansgar.

Last Saturday afternoon she was at home alone with her mother, and shortly after five o'clock she climbed up in the cupboard and got hold of some matches, and in some manner got her dress on fire while her mother was out by the well just outside of the house. She screamed and ran out on the porch. Then there was only a small portion of the front of her dress on fire and her mother in her excitement tried to whip the fire out with her hands but the more she whipped it the fiercer it burned. She rushed in the house trying all the time to put out the fire, and all the time it burned fiercer until nearly all the clothing of the little one was burned away and the skin was burned off of fully three-fourths of her body.

Dr. Westenberger could do nothing to help her and she died at about eleven o'clock. Mrs. Beyer's hands were both frightfully burned, but the injuries are not dangerous. Mr. Beyer was visiting at Buffalo, N.D. at the time but arrived home Sunday. Little Ruth Clara was the baby of the large family of 12 children and was 2 years, 10 month and 11 days old. The funeral was held at the U.N.L. church at St. Ansgar yesterday afternoon.
