Mary Louise Nelson was born at Garrisons Grove, DuPage county, ILL., September 14, 1840. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.
When she was 2 years of age, the parents moved to Dodgeville, Wis., where she grew to womanhood. On May 24, 1866, she was united in marriage with H.K. Lane and for some time made their home at Dodgeville, Wis.
In 1870 they moved to St. Ansgar, Iowa, which has since been their home.
Mrs. Lane is survived by her husband and five children, nine grandchildren, and three brothers The children are Mrs. H.A. Groth, Mrs. C.T. Tollefson of St. Ansgar, Carl O Lane, Otranto, Miss Emma L. Lane and J. Louis Lane of Williams, Minn. The brothers are Nels Nelson Humbolt Iowa; Oliver Nelson, Goldfield, Iowa; Alex Nelson, Dows, Iowa.
Mrs. Lane had enjoyed good health nearly all her life until she was stricken with the dread disease, which caused her death. She was a patient sufferer until about 11 o'clock a.m. when she slept peacefully away with the firm and steadfast conviction that Jesus was her sole redeemer and comforter. The funeral was held at the N.L. church on January 15, 1919, Rev. J.A. Urnes officiating, and hosts of friends gathered to pay their last respects to the departed one. She was laid to rest in the N.L. cemetery amid a profusion of sweet flowers, sent by her sorrowing relatives and friends.
In the death of Mrs. Lane, the community has lost a good, Christian woman. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a kind and helpful neighbor and friend. Mrs. Lane will be greatly missed in church circles where she took an active part in all the activities of the Ladies' Aid, she being one of the oldest members of the Aid society. But especially will she be missed in her home and it is to her loved ones that the sympathy of all goes out at the time.
