Drowned in the Cedar.
Charles City Intelligencer:—A sad drowning accident occured at the railroad bridge at the Cedar, Sunday afternoon. Peter Long, of Mitchell, who has been at work on the Moon farm west of the city, came in Sunday on his way home, and stopped at the bridge to take a bath. The water for a little distance from the bank is shallow, then comes a sudden plunge of several feet. He stepped off this and went down. Coming to the surface he called for help, but though several persons were standing by no one offering any assistance, and he sank out of sight. It was about half an hour before the body was recovered, Will Brown bringing it to the surface, it being his fourth experience of the kind at the same place. Efforts at resusitation were made by Dr. Knickerbocker but were without avail.
The deceased was a young man about twenty-five years of age, and stood well in his home community.
